THE GREENEST
ROUTE POSSIBLE

Every time you spend money, you're casting a vote for the kind of world you want.

At times its cheaper and faster to travel by plane and for some of us it’s the only option! We must understand the damage we cause by the choices we make. For those who can afford to spend more time and money to reduce their carbon emissions, remember there is more than one way to get to the mountain. We advise checking the carbon footprint of your journey on ecopassenger.org to find out what the emissions are related to the various travel options you have available. Check out our Getting There page for more info….

TRAIN NOT PLANE

By travelling to the festival by train, you reduce your journey related emissions by 43.78% compared to flying. This is why we run our trainNOTplane campaign each year, giving away free festival tickets to the most dedicated earth-lovers amongst you. For further information then please contact Vera at environment@meadowsinthemountains.com, or check out the incredible resources that are https://www.interrail.eu & https://www.seat61.com for route inspiration.

PLANT A TREE

We feel that it is important for us to understand the carbon we emit as individuals and be connected to any solutions to sequester them. This is why we are partnering with local reforestation projects so that we can ensure our efforts are focused here in Bulgaria.

By working on planting trees in the Rhodope Mountains and the surrounding areas we are supporting the environment in which we have the biggest impact on as well offering you the opportunity to get involved and join us on one of our tree planting camps. In 2019 we planted 15 x fruit trees on the festival site as part of our vision to localise our food systems. 2020 marks a new dawn - we are honoured to have formed two new Bulgarian reforestation partnerships. We will be working closely with the Bulgarian Environmental Partnership Foundation and gorata.bg to harness MITM community and help reforest large areas across Bulgaria. With a number of events happening throughout the year please don't miss this amazing opportunity to sequester your carbon and get your hands dirty making your own forest.

Zero Waste Kit

Not only do these long life reusable items keep our waste down to a minimum in the meadows, they make the perfect travel and life companion all year round.

Gear up now….

ASHTRAYS

It can take between 18 months - 10 years for cigarette filters to degrade in the Meadows.  Respect our mountain and use our ashtrays.  These can be emptied at any of the recycling stations on site

INSULATED FLASKS AND ENAMEL MUGS

Since 2011 our reusable mugs and flasks have saved more than 200,000 single use plastic cups from going into our global waste streams (and thats not inc the cups saved from being used at other festivals).

Please support our site-wide ban on plastic and join the Meadows movement towards a zero waste culture.

BOWLS

Every year we analyse our waste and try to improve by reducing waste from our supply chains.

Currently we use biodegradable plates and bowls.
Its time for us to go one step further and introduce our latest edition to our zero waste kit - the reusable festival bowl.

Wash it when you're done eating -clip it back on and get back to it....

Dont mess about...

SPORKS

Alongside our festival bowls we are now including the Spork (spoon/fork).

No more trees need to be cit down for wooden cutlery, these sporks will last a lifetime.

PARTNERS AND COLLABORATORS

A well deserved and huge thank you to our brothers and sisters at Extinction Rebellion for their ongoing efforts in bringing the urgency of our climate crisis to the fore of the public eye, and keeping it there.

We at Meadows are incredibly proud to be joined by both XR UK +Bulgaria. To be as enamoured by their passion, join in on their talks and workshops during the festival. If you are an artist or working within the music industry, please head over to Music Declares to see how else you can support what is proving to be the most impassioning time to act against climate change.
